Fake it till you make it!How often have you told yourself “I just don’t feel like it!” when it comes to taking action that you may not be particularly looking forward to.  This happens a lot in business especially when it comes to doing something that needs to be done to move us forward.  And for whatever reason, we resist because the action seems so incongruent with how we are feeling at the moment.  Kind of the opposite of “If it feels right do it!”.

The problem is that as human beings, how we “feel” at any one particular moment changes, well… moment by moment! And a lot of people think that if they could first feel successful, they would naturally act in the way to consistently produce success.  The truth is, that kind of thinking is bass-ackwards…

It is easier to act yourself into a better way of feeling than feel yourself into a better way of acting.

“Fake it till you make it!” is the advice I give to students who have chosen to dominate a slice of the market (i.e. niche) but have yet to master the knowledge of it.  The same could be said for reconciling your actions and feelings.  If you don’t feel successful simply do the actions that will make you successful and the feelings will come.  Without doubt this unsynchronized coupling of your feelings and actions will at first seem unnatural or even disingenuous.  However, action is the sincerest form of intention.  So don’t worry, keep doing something long enough and your feelings will eventually catch up.
